How do I Hook Up a Computer to a TV With an S-Video?
- The separated video, or S-video, cable is an analog connector cable that sends audio and video from a computer to a television. They are an upgrade from the standard audio/visual composite cables.
- Before you purchase the cable, be sure that your computer and television have the proper interfaces to accept the S-video cable. There is more than one type of S-video cable, so make sure you buy the type compatible with your equipment. Next, connect the cable from your computer to your television and switch the television to the input channel designated for this interface. The image on your computer should appear on your television. If not, press your computer's hot key to put it in external VGA mode. This is different for each laptop and usually consists of pressing the "Function" key with and "F" number, such as "F8."
- As of 2010, a 6-foot S-video cable retails for about $10 to $15.
