How to Disable Daytime Running Lights
- 1). Turn off the engine and open the hood.
- 2). Access the daytime running lamp assembly. On most vehicles, the daytime running lamp assembly is located underneath the headlight assembly. Other vehicles allow access to the daytime running lamp assembly through the wheel well. Check your vehicle's owner's manual for instructions on how to access the assembly.
- 3). Disconnect the electrical connector at the rear of the assembly.
- 4). Close the hood. To enable your daytime running lamps, simply reconnect the connector whenever you wish to use them.
- 1). Remove the cover from the fuse box. Most vehicles have the fuse box in the engine compartment under the hood. Others have the fuse box in the glove compartment or below the steering wheel. Check your owner's manual for the location of the fuse box.
- 2). Remove the daytime running lamps fuse. It should be labeled "DRL" or "Daytime Running Lamps." Again, check the owner's manual to be sure. Several manufacturers print the location of each fuse on the underside of the fuse box cover.
- 3). Place the cover back onto the fuse box. To enable the daytime running lamps, reinstall the fuse.
- 1). Remove the headlight relay from the vehicle. Many vehicles have a specific pin for the daytime running lamp system on the headlight relay and if that pin is cut, the daytime running lamps stop functioning. This is mainly for Toyota vehicles. Check your owner's manual for the exact location of the relay and the exact pin to cut.
- 2). Cut the daylight running lamps pin with wire cutters.
- 3). Place the relay back into the vehicle and turn on the engine to test if the procedure worked.
