How to Know If the Blade Is Bent on a Push Mower?

1
    • 1). Operate the mower in a small section of the yard where you don't mind if the grass is not properly cut. If the mowed area appears to have a deeper cut than normal, the blade may be bent. If the engine appears to be laboring more than usual, the blade may be bent.

    • 2). Disconnect the spark plug wire if the mower is gasoline-powered. Unplug the mower if it is an electric model. Tilt the mower on its side.

    • 3). Identify the blade, located on the underside of the mowing deck. If your model has a standard lift blade, it should be flat in the middle nearest the bolt spindle and slightly tilted on each side. A mulching blade is flat nearest the spindle, but then has a number of curves designed to circulate and re-cut the clippings within the underside of the mower deck.

    • 4). Check to see if both sides are curved in the same manner. A bend in a mower blade typically only occurs on one side of the blade because it hits a hard object and stops the mower.
