Hope Street Hotel

• This luxury boutique hotel is a favourite with national celebrities and international politicians (Condoleeza Rice stayed here in 2005). Paparazzi are known to gather here awaiting the arrival of football players and pop stars. The building itself is inspired by a 16th century Venetian palace, while the bedrooms feature underfloor heating, oak floors and Egyptian cotton bedsheets.

Hard Days Night Hotel

• Unsurprisingly for a hotel named after one of the Beatles' songs, guests can stay in the Lennon or McCartney suites. The former has a white baby grand piano, similar to the one he plays in the video for 'Imagine', while the walls are covered in images of the late musician. The McCartney suite is also filled with images and artwork relating to the ex-Beatle.

Britannia Adelphi Hotel

• Though only a three star hotel, the Adelphi was once considered to be one of the finest in the world. It was first opened in 1826 and would acquire a reputation for luxury, thanks to marble walls, an indoor swimming pool and a sauna. Author Jules Verne even mentions the Adelphi Hotel in his 1869 novel, 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea'.

Roscoe House Hotel

• This hotel was once the home of famous historian and writer William Roscoe. He lived here in the early 19th century, during which time he became known for his stance against slavery.
