How to Improve English Calligraphy
- 1). Use lined paper. This helps you to see how tall the letters should be in order to make them a uniform size. Lined paper is good for practice, but you may not want it for the final piece. In that case, you can either place the lined paper behind your final paper or draw the lines with pencil to act as a guide, erasing them when you finish.
- 2). Hold the pen correctly. You should cradle it between the thumb and middle finger, with the index finger on top. It should rest on the first knuckle of the middle finger.
- 3). Practice each letter many times, using the lines as a guide. The more times you write the letter, the more perfect your calligraphy will become.
- 4). Tap the ink before writing. When you dip your pen in the ink, be sure to tap off some of the extra ink to avoid bleeding.
- 5). Spend time writing calligraphy every day. If you go for long breaks in between writing, you may have to retrain your hands to form the letters.
