How to Convert an AT&T iPhone to Prepaid
- 1). Cancel the iPhone's AT&T service plan, if you still have one for it. Dial 611 and press "0" to speak with an operator who can cancel your contract. Note that if you have not fulfilled the full term of your contract, you are liable for a termination fee.
- 2). Obtain a prepaid SIM card, either online or at a retail location. Examples of companies that offer prepaid SIM cards are T-Mobile and GoPhone, a subsidiary of AT&T.
- 3). Unfold the paper clip to expose one of its sharp ends, then gently push it inside the hole beside the iPhone SIM tray until the tray comes out of the iPhone body. Remove the AT&T SIM card, set it aside, then place the prepaid SIM card face down into the tray and replace it in the body of the iPhone.
- 4). Dial the customer service phone number printed on the SIM card packaging to activate the device over the phone, or return to the retail location where you bought it. Certain companies offer online activation. Consult the SIM card packaging for details.
