Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) gaming system was introduced to the gaming public in March 2004 and has sold over 60 million units worldwide as of March 2010. The sports games made for this handheld gaming system span the sports universe, including soccer, basketball, hockey and, of course, football. Football games made for the PSP feature minicamp NFL modes, franchise modes and NFL minicamp competitions as well. - Released in August 2009 for the PSP gaming system, "Madden NFL 10" is the latest in the popular series by Electronic Arts. Play as any NFL team against any other NFL team. Pick the loser in a classic game from the past and attempt to rewrite history by replaying the game in "Superstar Challenge," a mode exclusive to the PSP. Design your own plays and upload them up to Playstation 3 console via a PSP cable sold separately.
- As the first NFL football game released for the PSP system in August of 2005, "NFL Street 2 Unleashed" includes an "NFL Challenge" mode that lets you choose an NFL team to face other teams in the same region. After you beat one or more teams, the challenges get tougher as better NFL teams enter the picture and have to be beaten by total scores of 24 points or more in order to complete the challenges. In the "own the city" mode, your team must pick a roster of unknown players to beat the top-ranked NFL teams.
- In "NCAA Football 10," released for the PSP in July 2009, choose from a solid stable of college football players to bulk up your team. Send them through a series of drills to increase their speed, passing accuracy and defensive skills. Player animations resemble those of the console versions of "NCAA Football 10," and crowd noises can be heard well from the PSP's small speakers.
- As a sequel to Midway's "Blitz: The League" games, PSP's "Blitz: Overtime" features hard-hitting players knocking each other around while you try to score touchdown after touchdown in a four-quarter matchup. In eight-on-eight games, control both the receiver and the quarterback in several game modes. In campaign mode, steer your team through a grueling 30 games for a chance to play for the title.
