CNA 2 Training
- The OSBN requires candidates for Level 2 nursing assistant certification complete at least 30 hours of classroom and laboratory training in one of three areas: acute, dementia and rehabilitative care. Central Oregon Community College in Bend offers the CNA Level 2 acute care certification. The course consists of 80 hours of coursework (20 hours of classroom training, 30 hours of laboratory activities and 30 hours of direct patient care in an acute setting. Columbia Gorge Community College The Dalles campus offers the rehabilitative (restorative) and the acute certifications. In both routes, students complete up to 96 hours of classroom and clinical training.
- Training domains include communicating with patients, family and staff members, observing and reporting abnormal changes in the patient's condition, obtaining vital statistics, using medical aseptic techniques, safety and developing positive outcomes for caregiver self-care. Students must complete a comprehensive evaluation competency examination to secure a Level 2 certification.
- To qualify for CNA Level 2 training, nursing assistants must possess an unrestricted Level 1 CNA certificate issued by the OSBN and have their name listed on the CNA registry.
