How to Identify Which iPod Touch You Have

16
    • 1). Turn the iPod touch over so the silver-plated side is facing you and locate the wireless antenna cover in the upper-left corner. The antenna on the fourth-generation iPod touch looks like a small pill-sized black, plastic oval; the antenna on the first-generation iPod touch is a large, black rectangular piece; and the antenna on the second- and third-generation iPod touch is a black, plastic oval.

    • 2). Locate the model number on the lower-half of the back of the iPod touch. A second-generation iPod touch is distinguished from a third-generation iPod touch by the model number. A model number with A1288 in it indicates you have a second-generation iPod touch; a model number with A1318 indicates you have a third-generation iPod touch.

    • 3). Identify your iPod touch's storage space. Connect the iPod to your computer, open iTunes and click the name of your iPod beneath Devices. Your device's storage space is displayed on the lower-right corner of the program window. Combine your generation and storage space to determine what iPod touch you have.

The first-generation iPod touch is available with either 8 or 16 GB of storage capacity; the second-generation iPod touch is available with either 8, 16 or 32 GB models; the third-generation device is available with either 32 or 64 GB of storage space; and the fourth-generation iPod touch is available with either 8, 32 or 64 GB of storage space.
