How to Prevent Drip Irrigation Back Flow

2
    • 1). Obtain a backflow preventer valve from your local hardware store that will fit the outside tap you use for your drip irrigation system. A basic drip irrigation system may only require one backflow preventer where it is connected to your home's piping. More complex systems may require additional valves. Your local hardware store irrigation system expert will be able to help you plan what you need for your system.

    • 2). Turn off your irrigation system and disconnect your system at the tap.

    • 3). Install the backflow preventer, taking care to connect the valve in the right direction. Otherwise, water will not flow properly and your home will not be protected against backflow.

    • 4). Reconnect your irrigation system to the backflow preventer. Turn on the system to verify that it is working properly.
