How to Install a PT Cruiser Battery
- 1). Remove the air intake system. This is in the front of the engine compartment on the driver's side. The air intake is held in by clamps on the bottom of the main air intake box and by a clamp connecting a hose to the air intake manifold. Unclamp the main air intake box and loosen the clamp holding the hose to the air intake manifold.
- 2). Lift out the air intake manifold. The air filter and air intake box are underneath the back of the manifold. Remove the air filter and the air filter box.
- 3). Remove the clamp holding the battery in place, using a 1/2-inch socket wrench. Loosen the battery leads, beginning with the negative cable, using a crescent wrench. Remove the terminals and pull the battery out of the Cruiser.
- 4). Put the new battery in place. Make sure that the battery terminals are facing the correct battery leads. Typically, battery terminals and leads are color-coded. The negative terminal should be facing the black lead, and the positive terminal should be facing the red lead.
- 5). Attach the battery leads to the battery terminals and tighten the bolts holding the leads with a crescent wrench. Tighten the battery clamp using a 1/2-inch socket wrench. Replace the air filter box, the air filter and the air intake system. Clamp the air intake system back in place.
