How to Add Freon to a 2000 Pathfinder
- 1). Start the engine of your 2000 Pathfinder. Open the hood and listen to hear if the compressor pump is running. if it is running, everything is as it should be. If it is not running, keep going on with the steps but keep it in mind. Shake the can of R134 vigorously for about a minute.
- 2). Find the low pressure valve of the air conditioning. There are two valves, low and high pressure. The low pressure valve is near the radiator and on the driver's side. It is larger than the high pressure valve. The R134 replacement kit will only fit the low pressure valve so don't worry about putting it on the wrong one. Take off the low pressure valve's cap and connect the hose on the can of R134.
- 3). Read the gauge on the hose. Make sure the coolant is low and that the air is not cold for some other reason. Push the tap at the top of the can to introduce the R134 to the cooling system. If the compressor pump was not running before, listen to hear if it comes on when the R134 is introduced into the system. If the pump does not engage, stop filling with R134 and have it looked at by a mechanic.
- 4). Fill the system with the R134 until the gauge reads full. Do not overfill the system as this could harm your cooling system and make for some expensive repairs. When the gauge reads "full" stop filling your system and remove the hose from the low pressure valve.
- 5). Sit in the vehicle for a minute or so to see if the air is coming out cold. Replace the cap on the low pressure fitting and close the hood.
