How to Do Tibetan Healing Meditation

Chant the name, Bhaisajya-guru. The Medicine Buddha, known as Bhaisajya-guru, appeared in the third century. He is believed to be an emanation of the original Buddha, Sakyamuni, who is credited with saying that to speak the Bhaisajya-gurumantra is sufficient for healing, freedom from suffering and assurance of auspicious future births. - 2
Perform Medicine Buddha Sadhana, which is series of prayers to Bhaishjaye guru, mantra recitations, visualizations, within the context of traditional Tibetan Buddhist prayer structure. (See Additional Resources for Medicine Buddha Sadhana in its entirety) - 3
Chant Medicine Buddha Mantra, which calls on the Medicine Buddha, intones OM (the sound of the universe), requests to have illness removed, and relinquishes the prayer to Bhaishjaye guru. Chant "Om namo bhagawate Bhaishjaye guru; vaidurya prabha rajaya tathagataya; arhate samyaksam buddhaya teyatha; om bekhajye bekhajye maha bekhajye; bekhajye rajaya samungate svaha." - 4). Meditate before Tibetan Healing Thangka. Tibetan Buddhist thangkas as painted or embroidered hangings, which depict revered Buddhist images, such as Medicine Buddha, bodhisattvas, and the Buddha. Tibetan Buddhists believe that thangkas communicate the divine and offer properties associated with the images.
- 5). Practice Tonglen (Sending and Taking), also called Mindfulness Practice, to establish sanity and to loosen the tension in your heart. Tonglen/Mindfulness Practice also is performed to develop compassion for the suffering of others and to help all beings cease suffering and the causes of suffering.
