    Physical Characteristics

    • The Garmin Nuvi 205 and 205W each measure 2.9 inches in height and 0.8 inches in depth. The Nuvi 205W, however, has a 4.8-inch width in comparison to the 205's 3.9 inches.

      The white-backlit color anti-glare TFT touchscreen measurements of the 205W consist of a 4.3-inch diagonal with a 3.81-inch width and 2.25-inch height. By contrast, that of the 205 diagonally measures 3.5 inches, with a 2.8-inch width and 2.1-inch height. Moreover, while the 205W's screen provides 480 by 272 pixels in resolution, the 205 offers 320 by 240 pixels. The 205 is lighter than the 205W, at 5.2 ounces compared to 6.1 ounces.

    Battery Life, Memory and Maps

    • Each Garmin Nuvi 205 and 205W has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to four hours of battery life. Each street navigator contains preloaded street maps for the United States and an European region/country of the user's choice.

      You can add more maps using the Nuvi 205's or 205W's internal solid-state flash memory, and you can expand that memory by inserting a microSD card -- or small Secure Digital card -- into the provided slot. The devices also accept the addition of up to 1,000 points of interest (POI), which can include anything from ATM machines and gas stations to restaurants and hotels.

    Navigation Features

    • Each Garmin Nuvi 205 and 205W has voice prompts for giving driving instructions, a re-routing/route avoidance feature to steer people away from traffic situation that might delay their driving, and free Garmin Garage service for determining map locations via downloaded animated vehicles. Other navigation features include a speed limit indicator, the "Where Am I?" feature for locating the nearest POI and ecoRoute, for plotting more fuel-efficient routes.

    Non-navigation Features

    • Offering more than just navigation tools, the Nuvi 205 and 205W each have a world travel clock, currency and measurement converters, calculator and JPEG picture viewer. Both devices are protected by an anti-theft feature called Garmin Lock.
