How to Read a PG&E SmartMeter
- 1). Locate the digital display on the front of the meter. The meter scrolls through a few different displays in three- to five- second intervals.
- 2). Check the date by reading the display marked as "01." Next to the display is a six-digit number that represents the date. For example, 010111 would mean January 1, 2011.
- 3). Check the display for the time of day. If the display is reading "02" the time will be displayed next to it. The time will be displayed in military time, so if it reads 221523, then the time will be 10:15 p.m. and 23 seconds.
- 4). Check the meter's configuration and version. If the display reads "PG," this information will be displayed next to it.
- 5). Check the current meter reading. If the display reads "10" the reading, in kilowatts, will be displayed next to it.
