An updo hairstyle is a great option for formal occasions, such as weddings or proms. It's a classic look that can be styled in a myriad of ways. You can choose from a more formal updo to a classic, structured one. However, if you have short hair, it can be difficult to style it in an updo, as there isn't usually enough length of hair. Get creative, though, and you can have an updo hairstyle on your short hair. - Create a stylish updo with your short hair by slicking it back dramatically and using headbands to accessorize it. Use gel or pomade to sweep your hair away from your face. Make sure that it's not too flat, though--it will need some volume on top. On the back of your head, use bobby pins--ones that are closest in color to your hair color--to pin the hair in place. Add three thin black headbands to the top of your head.
- If your hair is naturally curly, you can create a romantic and feminine updo with your short hair. Even if your hair is already curly, make sure to use products that enhance the curl, such as mousse. If you want to make it even curlier, use a small barrel curling iron. Create loops with your curls and use bobby pins or decorative pins to pin the curls into place.
- While a chignon is usually best suited to long hair, you can create a pseudo chignon with your short hair. To create this, use bobby pins--ones that are the same color as your hair--to pin the back of your hair up and onto your scalp. Curl the sides and back of your hair. Sweep that hair back and pin it over the hair that you pinned down. Secure with a clip with a flower on it and you have a lovely chignon.
