How to Make a Kitchen Compost Bin
- 1). Drill several holes in the top of the coffee can lid.
- 2). Insert the glue stick into the hot glue gun.
- 3). Glue the filter on top of the lid in order to control odor.
- 4). Add vegetable scraps, shredded paper, tea bags, used coffee grounds as they become available.
- 5). Put the top back on the coffee can.
- 6). Place compost bin under the kitchen sink and shake periodically to mix contents.
- 7). Incorporate waste from your bucket into an outdoor compost pile about once a week. According to the Davis, California, City Recycling Program, kitchen compost should be buried at least 12 inches deep to keep it from attracting rodents and other pests while it decomposes.
