How Do I Decrease Cat Hair in the Home?
- 1). Groom your cat with a slicker brush at least once per day. A slicker brush is designed to remove excess or loose cat hair without pulling the hair and hurting the cat. Brush with the grain of your cat's hair, and dispose of the hair in a trash can.
- 2). Bathe your cat at least once per month to keep loose hair off it. Use a shampoo designed specifically for cats, and use lukewarm water so that you do not burn your cat's delicate skin. If your cat has an aversion to water, you can take it to a pet groomer, who has special equipment to help bathe resistant animals.
- 3). Remove existing cat hair from clothing, furniture and carpeting using a lint tape roller, available at any supermarket. Cat hair sticks to the lint tape roller as you roll it over an object. Once the tape is full of hair, you can tear off the tape to reveal a new piece of sticky tape to complete your hair removal.
- 4). Improve your cat's diet to reduce hair loss. Feed your feline foods that are high in protein, which are easily digestible and improve the quality of your cat's coat. High-protein foods include meats, fish and animal fats. Avoid feeding your cat grains, which may cause disruption to your cat's natural digestion and exacerbate hair loss.
