Session Analysis in Poker - The Blinds

4
Introduction When you play poker there are 6 battlefields: Blind Attack In Position Blind Attack Out of Position Blind Defence In Position Blind Defence Out of Position Open Attack Out of Position Open Defence In Position It is important to look at Blind Cost in the first 4 battlefields.
Steals You make money by forcing your opponents to fold to a steal and lose money if you fold to their raise.
If there is a call, you make money by forcing them to fold to your c-bet, or lose money if you fold on the flop to their C/R or donk bet.
It is important to isolate these areas to have a better understanding of what is happening when you make a steal attempt.
The B/E point for a 3bb steal is 66%, a 2.
5bb steal is 55% and a 2bb steal is 44%, so you can tell at a glance with the 'Steal Success %' if your positional steals are making or losing money by forcing your opponent to fold.
If the figure is lower than B/E they are calling or raising your steal and you need to include columns for the areas I mentioned above to see where your profit or loss is coming from.
If you are defending against a 3bb/2.
5bb/2bb steal the B/E % is 34%, 45% and 56% respectively (the reverse of the attack B/E figures) and you need to identify where the profit or loss on defence is coming from using the same areas outlined for the attack section.
Blind Cost and Overall Session Profit When you finish a session with a profit, your net income from playing is equal to the blind cost of 25bb/100 hands and your profit (for example a 5bb/100 session profit has a net income of 30bb/100) and your goal is always to have a net income/100 hands higher than blind cost/100 hands by making good decisions.
If you have tracking software the position report shows your profit or loss per 100 hands for each position and long-term results should be a positive WR outside the blinds and between a 20% and 40% loss in the blinds (-10bb/100 to -20bb/100 in the sb and -20bb/100 to -40bb/100 in the bb).
If the blind cost is positive that is a superb result.
The short-term results will be very different due to the high impact of variance.
Therefore look at Blind Cost and Session Profit/Loss as 2 separate areas, interlinked but not totally dependent on each other, because only 4 of the 6 battlefields affect the blinds - BAIP, BAOOP, BDIP, BDOOP.
