How to Remove Wite-Out From a Couch
- 1). Scrape dried Wite-Out from a couch with a stiff plastic spatula, credit card or similar implement. If the Wite-Out is still wet, soak up as much as possible with a dry, white rag. Blot the Wite-Out stain rather than rub it. Rubbing will cause the correction fluid to smear across the surface and penetrate deep into fabric fibers.
- 2). Pour 1 cup of water into a bowl and stir in 1 tsp. of a mild dish soap if you have a water-based Wite-Out stain. Submerge a white rag into the soapy mixture. Wring until the rag is wet but not dripping. Begin at the outer edge of the Wite-Out stain and blot the stain while working toward the middle. Rinse the rag and repeat until the Wite-Out stain is no longer visible.
- 3). Moisten a white rag with mineral spirits, paint thinner or a citrus-based, fabric-safe solvent if you have a petroleum-based Wite-Out stain. Dab the soaked rag on the correction fluid stain to pull the Wite-Out out of the fabric fibers. Continue to dab until you remove the Wite-Out. Mix 1/2 cup of water with 1/2 tsp. of liquid dish soap in a bowl. Dip the corner of a clean rag into the soap and water. Blot the area to remove solvent residue and to flush the solvent from the fabric. If small traces of Wite-Out remain, dip the corner of a rag into 3-percent hydrogen peroxide and lay the peroxide-soaked rag over the remaining Wite-Out for 30 to 45 minutes. Remove the rag and blot with water to flush.
