The Best Way to Clean Up Bloody Diarrhea From Carpet
- 1). Use a dust pan to scoop up the bloody diarrhea from the surface of the carpet while wearing rubber gloves. Take care not to rub the material into the carpet during removal. Dispose of the bloody diarrhea in a toilet and clean the dust pan thoroughly with hot soapy water before you put it away.
- 2). Soak a sponge in cold water and wring it out. Cold water must be used to treat protein stains such as blood and feces because hot water may cook the protein and set the stain permanently.
- 3). Dab the spot with the cold, damp sponge to soak up as much of the stain as possible. Do not scrub at the spot, just blot it with the damp rag until all of the material on the surface of the carpet has been removed. Rinse the sponge in cold water as necessary.
- 4). Apply rubbing alcohol to a cotton ball or a white paper towel. Blot at the stain just as you did with the sponge to remove the bloody diarrhea stain from the carpet. The color of the stain should transfer from the carpet to the cotton ball. Switch to a new cotton ball as necessary and continue until the cotton ball stops absorbing color from the stain.
- 5). Dilute 1 cup of liquid carpet shampoo in 4 cups of cool water. Brush the soapy mixture onto the stain with a scrub brush. Do not scrub hard; just try to get the mixture into the fibers of the carpet. Let the cleaner sit on the carpet until it is dry.
- 6). Vacuum the area when the carpet is dry and check the progress of your stain removal.
- 7). Apply 3 percent hydrogen peroxide to a cotton ball and dab it on any remaining discoloration on the carpet. Wait approximately one hour and check the carpet again. If the stain persists, apply a little more hydrogen peroxide and wait. You do not need to rinse away the peroxide when you are finished.
