How to Change the Oil in a V-Star Motorcycle
- 1). Warm up the motorcycle by taking it for a quick ride. If the oil is cool or cold, it won't run out freely. You can make sure the bike is warm enough by placing your hand on the motor and feeling warmth.
- 2). Pull up the motorcycle on an oil change stand, or prop up the bike so that it stands as vertically as possible.
- 3). Slide your oil pan under the motorcycle and remove the black filler cap.
- 4). Use a socket wrench to remove the drain plug under the motor, and allow all of the oil in the motorcycle to drain out. Wait until there is no stream of oil running.
- 5). Use a socket wrench to remove the oil filter cover. This is usually secured with one central bolt.
- 6). Remove the old oil filter and replace it with a new KN-145 filter. Slide the filter back into the housing, and replace the oil filter cover.
- 7). Replace the drain bolt, and make sure it is tight. Then, using a funnel, pour 3.17 qts. of 20w-50 oil into the motorcycle's oil reservoir.
- 8). Replace the motorcycle's filler cap, twisting tightly to secure it.
