How to Swap the Batteries of an iPod Touch 1G
- 1). Use the Safe Open Pry Tool to run along the edges of the iPod, releasing the clips and separating the screen and back panel. Do this carefully with a plastic tool so as not to damage either part. Remove the back of the iPod Touch.
- 2). Run the Safe Open Pry Tool along the edges of the battery, releasing the glue that holds it in place. Gently pull the battery out.
- 3). Turn the battery over and locate the battery, which is soldered in place by three wires (from left to right, a white wire, a red wire and a black wire). Take note of where the wires are sitting so you can replace them when you insert the new battery.
- 4). Use your fine-nib soldering iron and gently heat the connection beginning with the white wire on the left, then the red wire in the middle, then the black wire on the right until all of them are released. You will not need to use a lot of heat.
- 5). Replace the old battery with the new one and solder the wires into the same place. Begin with the white wire on the left, then move to the red wire in the middle and the black wire on the right until all are held in place. Wait two minutes between each wire so as not to overheat the motherboard the battery sits in. Use only a small amount of solder as you do not need much to make a good connection.
- 6). Replace the back cover of your iPod touch and click it into place.
