TDM May Be Useful for Some Atypical Antipsychotics
Although the use of plasma drug concentrations to monitor response to treatment seems to be a reasonable course of action, routine plasma concentration monitoring will be of no value without a consistent and significant correlation between plasma concentration and therapeutic response. For the atypical antipsychotics, plasma concentration-response data suggest that therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) for clozapine and olanzapine is warranted. However, no clinically applicable data are available for either risperidone or quetiapine.
