How to Prepare a 2008 Tax Return
- 1). Obtain a copy of your federal income tax return for the tax year 2008 on the Internal Revenue Service Web site (See Resources). Print a copy of your 2008 tax return and the instructions that go along with it. Tax rates and deductions change yearly, which means that instructions for the same tax form for years other than 2008 will not provide the correct information.
- 2). Enter your personal, income and adjusted gross income, tax, credits and payments information on your 2008 income tax return form. Different 2008 tax forms require different information, but all tax forms require this basic information. Refer to the instructions for your 2008 tax form for a better understanding of the information that needs to be included.
- 3). Correct any mistakes you may have made when filling out your tax form. Sign and affix the date to the form. Mail your 2008 tax form to the correct Department of Revenue office. Mailing addresses are found in the instructions section of the 2008 tax form. Taxpayers in certain states mail their returns to different locations than do taxpayers in other states.
