1. Paramedic
Firefighters are trained in basic medical and stabilization techniques. The position of paramedic involves delivering more complex medical treatment. To become a paramedic, a firefighter needs to obtain additional trainings and certifications. As paramedics come in direct contact with the public, they need to be able to communicate with individuals who are in highly intense situations. Paramedics are normally assigned to an ambulance as opposed to a fire truck; however, in some municipalities firefighters are required to be paramedics.
2. Plumber
A plumber performs installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems. The position requires two to three year of prior experience and may require certifications dependent upon the state in which the municipality is located. Plumbers work involves working with others to ensure work is completed as planned. If they see an issue, they should bring it up to the project manager immediately and may have recommended solutions.
3. Pool Attendant
A pool attendant is an entry-level position within an aquatics department. The position requires no education or experience and is an opportunity for those who are looking to gain experience in aquatics. For outdoor pools, these tend to be seasonal positions and are a good start for high school students looking for summer employment. Dependent upon the laws governing the municipality, there are various certifications that are needed to be employed as a pool attendant; some of which are first aid and CPR. Pool attendants assist in greeting the public, collecting monies and gathering supplies.
4. Recreation Leader
The position of recreation leader is an entry-level position. This position is also referred to as recreation aide. In order to qualify to be a recreation leader a high school diploma or less is normally required. It is typical for no experience to be required in order to become a recreation leader. Recreation leaders provide customer service to the public. They greet citizens, monitor activities, gather needed supplies, register participants, collect monies and assist with clean-up after activities.
5. Regional Branch Manager
Dependent upon the size of the city, there may be a regional branch manager position. The regional branch manager is responsible for the activities, programs and staff of a cluster of libraries. The position requires the same degree as a library branch manager; however, it requires three to six years of experience of which one to two years should be supervisory in nature. The branch manager works together with both professional and executive level library staff to safeguard the library's assets, staff and patrons. They perform administrative work in relation to library activities and programs. Additionally, they ensure that the library facilities and grounds are kept maintained and safe.6. Registered Nurse
A registered nurse performs complex medical care and diagnostics. They collect samples from patients and send them for testing through the proper channels. Registered nurses also provide patients with prescribed medications. In addition to their own duties, the registered nurse supervises others and ensures that the section is running in accordance with all applicable laws. The position requires certification as a registered nurse.
7. Report Taker
Not all reports are taken by an officer at a crime scene. For non-emergency situations, citizens call in incidents. The other person on the end of the call is a civilian report taker. The report taker must have good customer service and communication skills. The position requires a high school diploma and little to no experience. Some experience involving public contact would assist in gaining some of the necessary skills for the position.
