    • 1). Relieve the fuel system pressure. Remove the gas tank filler neck cap. On fuel injected models, locate the test port along the fuel line in the engine bay. Place towels along the port and press the port to relieve the system pressure. If the test port cannot be located or if the vehicle does not have a test port, place towels at the end of the fuel rail and disconnect the fuel line.

    • 2). Siphon the fuel from the tank using the siphoning kit, run the vehicle until a small amount of gas is left in the tank or wait to start the repair until the gas volume is lowered through normal use.

    • 3). Disconnect the electrical connections and fuel lines running into the gas tank.

    • 4). Remove the filler neck hose.

    • 5). Place two jack stands or a vehicle jack under the fuel tank. Use a piece of wood between the jack and the fuel tank to avoid damaging the tank.

    • 6). Remove the bolts holding the fuel tank straps in place and lower the fuel tank.

    • 7). Place the new tank into position, place the straps under the fuel tank and tighten the bolt straps to hold the tank in place.

    • 8). Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections running into the fuel tank.

    • 9). Connect the filler neck hose to the fuel tank.

Replace the gas tank filler cap. If you disconnected the fuel rail and fuel line to relieve the fuel system pressure, connect the line back to the line.
