How to Convert LP Albums to Digital
- 1). Hook up the turntable to the amplifier by inserting the white and red plugs on one end of the stereo cables into the left and right audio out jacks on the turntable, then connect the other ends to the audio input jacks on the back of the amp. Match the plug colors to the colors on the jacks.
- 2). Connect the second set of stereo cables from the amp to the jacks on the Y-adapter, then insert the plug on the Y-adapter into the computer's "Line In" port.
- 3). Open the recording software installed on the computer by double-clicking the name of the program.
- 4). Test the audio level by playing a record on the turntable, gradually increasing the volume on the amplifier. The amp volume control may not need to be turned any higher than 2 to achieve a satisfactory sound level. Turning the volume higher could damage the sound card in the computer.
- 5). Place the tonearm over the desired groove on the album, but do not lower the tonearm.
- 6). Click the "Record" button on the computer software, then lower the tonearm to start playback of the LP. Click "Stop" on the recording software when playback is complete.
- 7). Click the "File" tab on the software and select "Save As," then choose "Save as .Wav" for burning the recording to CD at a later time or "Save as MP3" to store the recording in a file for uploading to a portable player.
- 8). Type a name for the recording in the box provided, then click "Save" below the box to store the digital recording on the computer.
