How to Clean a Nikon D200 CCD
- 1). Remove the lens from the camera body. The sensor will be visible inside the lens hole.
- 2). Use a blower bulb to remove loose particles from the surface of the sensor. Blower bulbs create a burst of air by squeezing on the bulb to push the air inside through a tube. The process is gentler than using compressed air and doesn't contain the chemicals that compressed air contains. If you remove your lens and do this regularly, this can prevent spots from forming on your sensor.
- 3). Brush with a sensor brush to remove the particles that are left behind. A sensor brush has extra fine and soft bristles that won't damage the sensor. After every pass of the brush over the sensor, clean the tips of the brush with a can of compressed air. If you don't, you will just be redistributing dirt onto the sensor.
- 4). Clean the sensor with premoistened swabs. These swabs are wetted with a cleaning solution that will safely clean the surface of your Nikon's sensor. Swabs should remove the specks that the brush couldn't. You may have to scrub to remove tough specks, but be very careful not to break the soft fabric of the swab open. The material beneath could scratch your sensor.
- 5). Test the camera by taking a photo of a blank sheet of paper or a white wall. Taking a photo of a blank, solid colored object will allow you to see any specks that are left on the camera. If you see any spots that you missed, repeat the cleaning process. Sticky spots can be difficult to remove with only one cleaning.
