How to Fit a Dump Valve on a Saab 93

5

    Preparation

    • 1). Set the hand break. Remove the key from the ignition switch and open the hood.

    • 2). Disconnect the negative battery lead from the battery terminal using the adjustable wrench. Usually this lead is black. This will prevent any possibility of shock or shorting during the project.

    • 3). Clean the area where you will be working with the clean towel. Wipe dust from the air intake and bypass valve located between the radiator and engine block.

    Removing the Bypass Valve

    • 1). Locate the factory bypass valve. The bypass valve is positioned to the right of the engine block and to the left of the battery. It is connected to the silver pipe in between the engine and battery called the inlet pipe and the black plastic air intake pipe that runs parallel to the radiator. It also has a 1/4 inch vacuum hose attached to the front.

    • 2). Loosen the four circular clamps that hold the bypass valve in place using the flat head screwdriver.

    • 3). Slide the bypass valve out of the two rubber tubes attached to the inlet pipe and air intake. Remove the two round clamps from bottom rubber tube.

    • 4). Disconnect the 1/4 inch vacuum hose by pulling it off the nipple on the bypass valve.

    Installing the Dump Valve

    • 1). Slide the aftermarket dump valve in to the the rubber tube connected to the inlet pipe. Tighten the two circular clamps to hold the dump valve in place.

    • 2). Slide the air intake plug into the rubber tube or slide the film canister over the rubber tube. Use the two circular claps removed in section two step three to clamp the plug or canister in place. Tighten the clamps until an air tight seal is created.

    • 3). Reconnect the 1/4 inch vacuum hose to the small nipple on the aftermarket dump valve.

    • 4). Reconnect the negative battery lead and close the hood.
