How to Paint Concrete Blocks
- 1). Brush off the concrete block with a stiff bristled paint brush. Follow this by scrubbing the surfaces with a slightly abrasive soapy sponge soaked in water. You should remove as much dirt as possible to create the ideal surface for painting. Use a towel to wipe excess moisture off the concrete and then allow it to air dry.
- 2). Apply concrete sealer (block filler) to the concrete with a paint brush or roller, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Allow to dry completely.
- 3). Paint concrete surfaces with a roller brush or paint brush. Use long strokes to apply paint as evenly as possible. Allow this layer to dry completely--humidity and type of paint used will determine how long this takes, but plan on the drying time to take about a day.
- 4). Add another layer of paint to all surfaces. Allow this to dry and then you can add another layer for more vibrant color if necessary.
- 5). Apply sealer to the dried, painted surfaces. This will further protect the paint from fading and chipping.
