How to Lift a 1988 Toyota 4Runner
- 1). Park the vehicle on level ground. Put the vehicle in "Park" if you have an automatic transmission or in "Reverse" if you have a manual transmission. Place the transfer case shift lever in "Neutral" if you have four-wheel drive.
- 2). Place wood blocks in front of the front wheels and behind the rear wheels. Set two jack stands at both the front and back of the vehicle.
- 3). Place the jack under the left or right frame side rail (two-wheel drive) or front axle housing (four-wheel drive). Jack up the vehicle until the tire is off the ground. Push a jack stand under the front axle housing using a broom handle or other suitable object. Remove the jack and move it to the other side of the vehicle. Repeat the procedure. Note: If the vehicle is to be lifted any higher, wait until the rear wheels have been raised.
- 4). Place the jack under the rear axle housing on one side of the vehicle and raise that wheel until the tire is off of the ground and then place the axle on a jack stand. Repeat the procedure on the other side of the vehicle.
Note: If the vehicle needs to be lifted any higher, go around the vehicle gradually lifting at each point.
