How to Boil Florence Fennel
- 1). Wash the Florence fennel under cold running water. Shake off any excess water and place the fennel on a paper towel to absorb any remaining water.
- 2). Place the fennel on a cutting board and cut off the green tops with a sharp knife.
- 3). Slice off the top shoots and the bottom root.
- 4). Peel off just the outer layer of the fennel.
- 5). Slice the fennel into quarters and remove the core pieces from each slice.
- 6). Fill a saucepan with water or broth and place it on a burner, turning the heat to medium high to boil the water.
- 7). Place the fennel in the liquid once it starts to boil.
- 8). Cook the fennel for about 7 to 12 minutes in the boiling liquid, or until the fennel turns crisp tender.
