How to Replace an iPod Backlight
- 1). Place a soft cloth on a table. Place the iPod Nano face down on the soft cloth.
- 2). Insert the iPod opening tool into the seam between the front and back case at the upper left corner. Move the tool along the top to loosen the clips inside. Move the tool down the side of the iPod to loosen the clips inside. Move the tool along the bottom to loosen the bottom clips. Move the tool up the side of the iPod to loosen the side clips.
- 3). Pull the back case off the front case with your fingers. Place the back case aside for reassembly later.
- 4). Remove the six screws from the corners inside of the front case with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.
- 5). Insert the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver beneath the LCD panel at one corner. Lift up on the tip to loosen the panel from the clips holding it to the front case. Repeat this on the other corners.
- 6). Loosen the brown clip in the corner of the front case with the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver. Lift up on the clip to enable the plug to be pulled out. Pull out the plug with your fingers. Repeat this procedure with the brown clip at the other end that is holding the LCD's connector.
- 7). Pull the LCD panel off the front case. Remove the black clip lying alongside the headphone jack with your fingers. Place the black clip aside for reassembly later.
- 8). Place the LCD panel on the soft cloth with the LCD facing up. Loosen the clips at each side of the LCD panel with the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver. Pull the LCD out of the LCD panel. Pull the backlight out of the LCD panel. Dispose of the backlight properly.
- 9). Insert the replacement backlight into the LCD panel. Insert the LCD into the LCD panel.

Plug the connector from the LCD panel into the socket it originally occupied in the front case. Push down on the tab with the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver to lock the connector in place. Repeat this procedure with the connector and tab at the other end of the front case. - 11
Reattach the black clip. Place the LCD display back into position on the front case. Reattach the screws. Place the back case on the front case. Push down on the edges of the back case to reengage it to the front case.
