Connecting Your DirecTV DVR to Your TV via HDMI

    • 1). Establish DirecTV service. To use a DirecTV DVR, you must have DirecTV service. While this article is about DirecTV DVRs, note that if you are connecting another service's DVR to your TV, then you must have that service.

    • 2). Check the back of your television and your DirecTV DVR for HDMI slots. The slots are clearly labeled "HDMI." If your television has more than one HDMI slot, choose the slot labelled "HDMI 1."

    • 3). Gently slip one end of your HDMI cable into the DirecTV DVR's HDMI slot. Do not force the connection. If the connectors resist connecting up, double check that your plug is not upside down with respect to the slot. Turn it over and try again.

    • 4). Repeat by gently slipping the opposite end into your television's HDMI slot.

    • 5). Tune your television to the HDMI input to watch your DirecTV DVR. There is a button labeled "Input" on your television remote and you may have to push it several times to get to the correct HDMI input.
