How to Put Automatic Transmission Fluid in a 2001 PT Cruiser
- 1). Drive the car around to heat up the transmission fluid.
- 2). Park the car on an even surface. Turn the engine off.
- 3). Jack the car up, and place the jack stands behind each rear tire. There is a designated area behind each front tire for the jack stands to set on. Release the jack, and let the car rest on the jack stands. Make sure the car is evenly and securely on the jack stands. Remove the jack.
- 4). Crawl under the front of the car, and locate the fill plug on the transaxle. On the T-350 transaxle, the fill plug is located at the top on the right-hand side of the transaxle case; the drain plug is on the lower part of the transaxle case on the right-hand side.
- 5). Put the oil catch pan under the drain plug. Loosen and remove the drain plug with a ratchet and a socket. Let the fluid flow into the catch pan until all the fluid has come out of the transaxle. Reinsert the drain plug, and tighten the plug back down.
- 6). Remove the fill plug on the transaxle by using a ratchet and a socket. If the fill plug is a rubber plug, take a flathead screwdriver, and pry the plug out.
- 7). Put the plastic hose onto the funnel. Insert the other end of the tube into the fill plug hole on the transaxle. Pour the Type 7176 transmission fluid into the transaxle until it starts to run out of the hole. Remove the plastic tube. Reinsert the fill plug, and tighten it down. If it is the rubber plug, just push the plug in with your hand.
- 8). Crank the engine and shift the transmission back and forth, so that the fluid can get into all the areas of the transmission. Check the drain and fill plugs for leaks while the engine is running. If there are no leaks, turn the engine off.
- 9). Jack the car up, and remove the jack stands. Let the car back down.
