If you are thinking your brakes and not as good as they used to be it might be time to change them.
When was the last time you had them checked out? How often do you use your car? Are you an aggressive driver? Do you tend to slam on your brakes often? Do you hear a strange squeaking sound when you push on your brakes? These are good indicators its time for some new brakes.
While you might think you don't need a brake change you should consider these questions before you make a decision:

• How much do I use my car? Are you a daily driver? If yes, how far are my daily trips? What is the distance to and from work? Or maybe you only drive it as a hobby car? Only on weekends?
• Did you add any performance increasing parts to your car? Some brakes are designed for stock cars if you added in parts that increase your cars speed and performance, it might be a smart idea to make sure that your car has brakes at an equal caliber.
  
• When was the last time you got your brake pads replaced? How about your brake fluid? When was the last time you got your brake line checked out?
• Hobby cars are usually used for their speed or appearance.
  Did you remember to add new brakes to complement the increased power?

Just because you have a fairly new car does not mean they can withstand performance upgrades.
Make sure you have investigated whether your current brakes can handle the speed.
You need something that will slow you down fast enough to prevent a crash.
