Friendly Places to Visit in the South
Recently visiting New Orleans I could not help but feel the warmth from the natives around me.
From the moment I entered my hotel "The Embassy Suites" I was greeted as though I was family.
At breakfast the next morning I was greeted again by the cook Christie, who was talented indeed.
Even though I was dinning around town I never missed a breakfast after having her egg creations.
Every morning I was greeted by every staff member I met during my day as though we were related.
It was no different with the strangers I met on the streets while walking to or in the French Quarter.
That is New Orleans and there is no other place I have ever been that friendly.
A friend I brought along on the trip asked: "Are they always like this?" "Yes" I answered, "They are.
" The first place I enjoyed dinner that week was Tujagues, bought from the owners of Begue's.
Run by Steven Latter a New Orlean's native himself.
The main chef as it turns out is his own son Mark Latter, a great Chef in the kitchen.
We dined on a pre-set menu.
The six course Creole table d'holt menu includes Shrimp Remoulade and Beef Brisket with a Creole Sauce served with horseradish sauce and warm bread.
Then the entree is chosen from four offered.
They buy their food from the nearby vendors to be sure it is always fresh.
The dessert of warm bread pudding along with the dark-roast coffee, of which is served in a glass, topped off our evening.
We found the experience enchanting.
When we left the restaurant we were more then full and very satisfied, a wonderful unpretentious dinning experience I would love to repeat.
One of the great spots to dine is none other than "Brennan's for Breakfast" There are hardly enough words in our vocabulary to describe this experience.
Owen Edward Brennan, the popular creator of this fabulous restaurant had a head for business and reputation of giving his customers the best which continued after his death.
I felt like part of the family when I met Chef Lazone Randolph, his warm welcome was honest and typical for a native.
Mr Randolph has studied under the great Chefs before him since he started in 1965.
He has traveled to London to cook for the United States Embassy and appeared on numerous cooking shows including the Food Network.
He has recently appeared on the Rachael Rey show.
There were several menu's to choose from; Breakfast, Dinner, the regular menu and After having a cocktail and the famous unbelievably delicious turtle soup and Oysters Rockefeller, I chose what is called "a "Typical New Orleans Breakfast" and started with Eggs Hussarde which is poached eggs on top holland rusks, Canadian bacon and marchand de vin sauce, topped with Hollandaise sauce, it was a dream.
I was thrilled with the service and especially the delectable tastes.
At the end of the meal watching the Chef create Bananas foster, a Brennan's creation, as full as I was, I had that, and dared to try the "Creole suicide Chocolate cake" as well, which was simply wonderful.
I long to get right back to the flavors and hospitality of "Brennan's for Breakfast" as soon as I possibly can.
This is one place you should never miss on your visit to new Orleans.
The next stop was The Monteleone known as the largest and one of the most beautiful hotels in the center of the French Quarter.
I met two wonderful warm Chefs, Randy Buck and Jose who were gracious enough to allow me to taste their incredible soups and appetizers.
This was an experience I will remember forever.
The Gumbo Soup was the best ever and the Thai spring rolls was to die for.
Other places to enjoy and dine that must be mentioned is the Gospel Brunch at the "House of Blues" where you can dine on cajun cuisine while enjoying incredible sounds from the talented voices of an art that brought us Rock and Roll.
Olivier's at 204 Decatur in the French Quarter is a family owned restaurant sharing their old family secrets in their Creole cusine served nightly from 5 to 10 pm.
The Cresant City Brewhouse 527 Decatur, are known for their own Fresh Brewed Beer and New Orleans Menu featuring Soft Shell Crab and other favorites.
New Orleans is certainly the place to go if your desire is warm friendly people.
