Mitsubishi 3000GT Specifications
- Japan-based Mitsubishi produced its 3000GT line of sports cars from 1991 to 1999. The company manufactured all model years of this car as a hatchback coupe and began offering the 3000GT as a convertible in 1995. During the final year of production, Mitsubishi offered the 3000GT in three trim levels, base, SL and VR-4.
- Mitsubishi offered three variants of a 3.0-liter V6 engine for the 1999 3000GT. All three engines shared the same 3.59-inch bore and 2.99-inch stroke. The base model 3000GT used a single overhead cam and multi-port fuel injection with two valves per cylinder, for 12 valves total. This engine produced 161 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 185 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm with a compression ratio of 8.9 to 1.
Mitsubishi outfitted the SL model's engine with dual overhead cams and a fuel injection system that used four valves per cylinder, for 24 valves total. This engine cranked out 218 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 205 foot-pounds of torque at 4,500 rpm with a compression ratio of 10.0 to 1.
The VR-4 model also used dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. Mitsubishi installed a turbocharger on this engine, which boosted the horsepower to 320 at 6,000 rpm and gave the car 315 foot-pounds of torque at 2,500 rpm. This engine had a compression ratio of 8.0 to 1. - Mitsubishi installed a five-speed manual transmission as standard on the base and SL 3000GT. Buyers could upgrade to a four-speed automatic. The VR-4 featured a six-speed manual as the only available transmission. The base and SL models used front-wheel drive to transfer power. The VR-4 used all-wheel drive.
- The base model 1999 3000GT earned 18-19 miles per gallon during city driving and 23-24 mpg when driven on the highway, with the lower fuel rating for the automatic transmission model. The SL rated 18-19 mpg in the city and 24-25 mpg on the highways. The VR-4 3000GT earned 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highways.
The 1999 VR-4 3000GT can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds and cross the quarter-mile mark in 13.5 seconds with a speed of 105 mph. This car can hit a top speed of 155 mph. - All three models of the 1999 3000GT shared the same 180.7-inch length and 97.2-inch wheelbase. The base and SL models stood 4.1 inches above the curb, while the VR-4 had a ground clearance of 4.4 inches. These cars stretched 72.4 inches in width and had a height of 50.6 inches. A 3000GT's weight varied by model and transmission, ranging from 3,160 pounds for the manually-equipped base model to 3,760 pounds for the VR-4.
The 3000GT sat four. Front bucket seats provided a driver and front passenger with 37.1 inches of headroom in the base model and 36.1 inches of headroom in the SL and VR-4. All models offered 44.2 inches of front legroom and 56.7 inches of front hip room. Rear passengers enjoyed 34.1 inches of headroom, 28.5 inches of legroom and 46.9 inches of hip room.
