How to Get Rid of German Roaches From Furniture When Moving

3
    • 1). Prepare for your move weeks ahead of time by trying to draw cockroaches away from your furniture. Search for the cockroaches at night. Pull your furniture away from the walls, shine a flashlight into corners and see if any scurry away. If so, these pieces of furniture have become their hiding places. Restrict the cockroaches desire to nest in your furniture by keeping the furniture away from the walls, corners, boxes or bathrooms until you move. Keep these items in well-lit areas during the day.

    • 2). Set traps for the roaches that may still be around your furniture. Buy roach traps with sticky tape on them or create your own homemade traps. Take a jar with a metal top on it and fill the bottom with coffee beans. Add just enough water to keep the beans moist but not drenched. Cut a hole in the jar top similar to that of a coin slot. This will allow the roaches to crawl in, but the moisture and stickiness of the beans will not allow them to crawl out.

    • 3). Vacuum the furniture thoroughly. Pull cushions and pillows out of couches and chairs and make sure you get in the cracks. If the cushions are zipper style, take the fabric off and examine the cushion material. Shake them out thoroughly. If the legs of tables or couches are hollow and are not sealed properly, turn the chair or couch on its side and shake bugs out. Use the vacuum hose on the legs to pull out bugs.

    • 4). Clean your furniture. Mix mild soap and water and use it to sponge down all of the furniture. Roaches can exist in both clean and dirty homes. Cleanliness is not the issue. Surfaces wiped with soap and water can be an irritant to the bugs, if they are exposed to them. What you are trying to accomplish is to drive the bugs away from your furniture.

    • 5). Sprinkle boric acid around your furniture when you feel that you have drawn them away from the furniture. Line the areas around the furniture but do not put any boric acid directly on it. Boric acid acts as a deterrent to the roaches; if they step in it, their feet will burn, causing open sores that will quickly kill them. If you have pets or children do not use boric acid, since it is highly toxic if ingested. Do not inhale the powder, if using it.

    • 6). Explode a bug bomb in your living space within 24 hours of the time that you will be moving. Follow the manufacture directions and precautions. This will be your last chance at killing any remaining bugs that may have found a way to avoid your best efforts to kill them. The bug bomb is especially good if you believe that there may be any roach eggs left.
