How to Find a Hole in an Above-ground Pool
- 1). Inspect the grassy perimeter directly around your pool. Pool water has chlorine in it, and consistent contact with chlorine will turn the grass brown. If you find a brown patch of grass around your pool, feel the patch of grass. If the patch is moist, inspect the wall of the pool near the patch of grass for the leak.
- 2). Examine the sand or soil base under and around the pool for erosion and moisture. If you locate any, inspect the pool liner just above the area for the leak.
- 3). Look for rust leaks or corrosion on the outside of the pool. Some pools are made of corrugated metal, and others are composed of aluminum. Corrugated metal will show signs of brown discoloration whereas aluminum will show signs of white discoloration. The hole will be at the top of the discolored area.
- 4). Pour blue food coloring in the area where you suspect the leak. As the water exits the pool's liner, the food coloring will move toward the hole.
