How to Build a Homemade Truck Camper
- 1). Measure the bed of your truck. If your truck has wheel wells then figure those in your measurements and plans. Measure the entire interior of the bed plus the height of the cab.
- 2). Create your plans and figure your materials needed. Draw your plans out. Use these as your blueprints. Having a visual representation of your camper ensures it will be the style and size that you desire. Remember to allow for 2 x 4 studs throughout the walls at equal intervals. Make sure to include enough studs to adequately support the weight of the walls and roof. Remember to add a scoop to your camper to decrease wind resistance and increase gas mileage. The height of your camper needs to be at least two inches taller than your truck cab. Any less and you risk the possibility of them rubbing together and causing damage.
- 3). Gather materials and supplies needed based on the measurements.
- 1). Cut and frame your walls and scoop.
Add frames for windows, if desired.
Frame your door. - 2). Cut and frame your roof. Add frame for vent, if desired.
- 3). Cut and build your walls.
Hang window, if desired.
Add insulation, if desired.
Seal around the window with caulking.
Cut and hang drywall, if desired. - 4). Cut and build your roof.
Hang vent, if desired - 5). Paint exterior, if desired.
