How to Make a Wall With Landscaping Bricks
- 1). Remove the sod and topsoil from the area where you are planning your wall. Use a sharp shovel to cut the sod along the borders of the wall, then lift it up with the shovel. Dig out the area where you removed the sod to a depth of 6 inches. If you design your wall to be curved rather than straight, this will make it structurally stronger.
- 2). Put 3 or 4 inches of sand into the area you dug out and tamp it down with your foot. This will provide a smooth, level and stable surface for the bottom of your wall.
- 3). Place a row of landscaping bricks on top of the sand and press them down firmly. Check that the row of bricks is level by placing a 4-foot level along the top of the row. Put a bead of brick adhesive on top of each brick.
- 4). Place a second row of bricks on top of the first. Stagger the joints in each row so that the joint between two bricks is above the center of the brick below them. Put a bead of brick adhesive on top of each brick in this row.
- 5). Continue adding rows of bricks until you have reached your desired wall height. Don't make the wall more than 4 feet high, as it will begin to be unstable. Check with your local municipality about any permits that may be required and whether there are restrictions on wall height.
