General Cleaning

• If your marble surfaces come in contact with food, such as is the case with kitchen counters, clean the surfaces on a daily basis. Mix 1 tsp. of bleach-free dish washing detergent in 1 gallon of warm water. Wet a clean cloth with the water mixture and clean the surfaces of your marble with it. Dry the marble with a clean microfiber cloth to prevent water spots.
  
  

Stain Removal

• Stains can detract from the natural beauty of your marble surfaces, and can be challenging to remove. While some stains may require professional refinishing to remove, you can remove or lessen the appearance of most stains with a homemade stain remover. Apply a small amount of baking soda directly onto the stained area and form a paste with it by adding a solution made of ½ cup of ammonia and 1 gallon of warm water. Massage the mixture into the surface of the stain with a clean microfiber cloth, and rinse the area thoroughly with clean water. To finish, dry the area with a clean cloth to prevent water spots.
  
  

Water Ring Removal

• Protect the surface of your marble from water rings by using coasters. If the water rings have already formed, remove them by using a fine grade of steel wool. Be sure the grade of the steel wool you use is .0000. Wipe the surface clean with a dry cloth and then gently massage the area with the steel wool, working in a circular motion. Clean the area with mild dish soap and warm water, and then dry it with a clean cloth. It may take several times to fully remove the stain.
  
  

Polishing

• Chalk dust can polish your marble surfaces and restore their natural luster. Mix 3 tbsp. of baking soda with 1 quart of warm water and apply the mixture to the surface of the marble. Allow the mixture to dry for 1 hour. To finish polishing, dip a wet rag into chalk dust and gently massage the mixture over the marble surface. Rinse the marble with clean water and then dry it with a lint-free cloth to prevent water spots. Polish your marble at least twice a year, but no more than once a month.
  
  

Warnings

• Never use products that contain acids, such as those that are used for cleaning tile grout and bathroom surfaces, or natural products such as vinegar or lemon juice, to clean marble. Their high acid content will cause irreparable deformation of marble. Never scrub your marble surfaces with abrasive sponges or cleaners, as they will scar the surface of the marble.
