How to Clean a Laminate Wood Floor

1
    • 1). Plan a routine cleaning schedule for your laminate wood floors. Choose a day of the week that you want to do a thorough cleaning of your floors. Adhere to the schedule since routine cleaning will maintain the quality of your laminate wood floors.

    • 2). Sweep up large debris. Use a soft bristle broom and a dust pan to clean your laminate wood floor. Be sure to sweep behind furniture to get dust bunnies and pet hair. Don’t worry about getting fine dirt off the floor. Later steps will take care of dust and spots.

    • 3). Use a soft disposable cleaning cloth to sweep up dust. Swiffers and similar disposable cloths will pick up the fine particles of dust that a broom cannot collect. Be sure to use the soft cloth under tables, desks and down hallways. Use a sweeping motion, and cover the entire laminate wood floor surface.

    • 4). Fill a spray bottle with laminate wood floor cleaning solution. This type of cleaner can be purchased where you bought your flooring or at home improvement stores. Set the spray bottle to a fine mist spray. Test the cleaning spray in a corner or under some furniture to test for compatibility. If you see a change in floor coloring or any damage, use a different product.

    • 5). Use a cloth mop and the laminate spray cleaner to remove spots and excess dust. Spray a small portion of the laminate wood flooring, and wipe it up with the cloth mop. Continue cleaning the flooring in small patches with the floor cleaner. Be sure to use enough of the spray to moisten the area, without leaving streaks or spray spots.
