How to Install Windows XP to Replace Windows Vista
- 1). Back up all of your personal data manually by copying files and folders to an external media source, such as a CD/DVD, external hard drive or USB thumb drive.
- 2). Insert the Windows XP installation disk. Restart the computer. Press any key to boot from the installation disk.
- 3). Press "R" to enter the Recovery Console.
- 4). Press the number (usually "1") that corresponds to your Windows Vista installation.
- 5). Enter the "Administrator password." Press the "Enter" key.
- 6). Type "fixboot," then press "Enter."
- 7). Type "fixmbr," and press "Enter."
- 8). Enter "cd \" and tap the "Enter" key.
- 9). Enter "ren windows winvista," then press "Enter."
