How to Set Up Shared Printing From Vista to Vista
- 1). Make sure that your home network is set up and all the equipment is working properly (windows.Microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Setting-up-a-home-network). Also ensure that your printer and each network computer you'll use to print from it are turned on.
- 2). Go to the computer that's attached directly to your printer. Click on the "Start" button, then select "Control Panel," "Network and Internet," then "View network status and tasks." Select the down arrow to the right of "Printer Sharing" to expand the menu. Click "Turn on printer sharing," then click "Apply."
- 3). Make sure that the printer you would like to use and the computer it's attached to are both turned on. Click the "Start" button, then click "Network." In the list of network computers, find the computer that the printer is attached to. Double-click the computer name and log in with your username and password if necessary.
- 4). Click to open "Printers." Select the desired network printer from the list to install the printer driver. Click "Next."
- 5). Type "Printers" in the "Start Search" box and open your printers folder from the Programs list. If the printer installed properly, it should appear in this folder. In the future, select this printer whenever you wish to print a document over the network.
