How to Install a Pioneer GM-X904 Amplifier
- 1). Open the hood of the vehicle to access the battery terminals.
- 2). Loosen the bolts securing both the negative and positive battery cables to the battery using an adjustable wrench or pliers.
- 3). Lift the negative battery cable from the negative battery terminal post and rest the cable away from the battery lead.
- 4). Lift the positive battery cable from the battery post and place the power terminal from the amplifier wiring kit onto the positive battery post. Replace the positive battery cable clamp to the post (over the amp power terminal) and tighten the cable's clamp with the wrench or pliers.
- 5). Remove the fuse from the power terminal's fuse holder.
- 6). Plug the main power supply cable into the amplifier power terminal.
- 7). Drill an opening in the firewall on the driver's side of the engine compartment using a drill and 14-mm bit. Place a rubber grommet into the newly made opening to protect the power cable from the sharp edges of the new hole.
- 8). Feed the power cable from the engine compartment, through the firewall and into the inside of the vehicle. Move to the inside of the vehicle.
- 9). Remove the vehicle's stereo as directed in the vehicle's repair manual.
- 10
Disconnect the stereo wiring from the rear panel of outlets on the stock stereo. Connect the vehicle's stereo wiring connectors to the corresponding wiring harness adapter leads. Plug the adapter leads into the outlets on the back panel of the stereo. - 11
Plug the patch cables into the appropriate lead of the wiring harness adapter. See the harness manual for proper connection points for the patch cables. - 12
Feed the patch cables through the back of the vehicle's stereo dock and behind the dashboard to the floor of the vehicle. Replace the stereo and any dashboard paneling removed as part of the stereo removal process. - 13
Lay the power cable from the driver's side of the vehicle to the location of the Pioneer amp. - 14
Route the patch cables from the floor of the vehicle, down the side of the vehicle opposite the power cable (usually the passenger's side). - 15
Open the outlets on the amplifier by unscrewing the screws above the inputs with a Phillips screwdriver. Plug the power cable into the power outlet on the amplifier. Plug the patch cables into the signal and turn-on lead outlets on the amplifier. Tighten the screws once the inputs for power, signal and turn-on lead are seated within the amplifiers inputs. - 16
Connect the speaker wiring to the amplifier then route the wiring to the targeted speakers. The Pioneer GM-X904 connects to the speakers via RCA jacks. Use an RCA harness adapter to connect to speakers that are not equipped to receive the RCA jacks. - 17
Insert the grounding wire into the input on the Pioneer amp between the signal and power inputs. Tighten the screw above the terminal to secure the grounding wire. Connect the grounding wire to a bolt or screw no farther than 20 inches from the location of the amp. Proper grounding requires that the bolt or screw chosen be directly connected to the frame of the vehicle. Return to the battery. - 18
Replace the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal post. Tighten the cable to the terminal with the wrench. - 19
Replace the fuse into the amp's power terminal fuse holder and close the vehicle's hood.
