How to Trap a Lizard

16

    Gather Materials

    • 1). Buy an aquarium to catch and trap the lizard in. Aquariums are available at a local pet store.

If you have the materials to build your own, you may do so. The aquarium can be made of glass or plastic.

Note that we will be placing this near a lizard habitat.

    • 2). Buy lizard food to attract it to the trap. Lizard food is found at a local pet store. The most common food consist of worms or lizard blends. Either food will attract the lizard.

    • 3). Purchase wired mesh at a local hardware or pet store. The wired mesh will be used to mold the entrance to the lizard trap. Be sure to purchase wired mesh that is longer and wider than the aquarium.

    • 4). Cut a square piece from the wired and make it two inches wider and longer than the aquarium. Place the wired mesh around the aquarium. Duct tape the wired mesh around the aquarium. Pat the tape to secure the wired mesh around the aquarium.

    • 5). Cut a circular hole in the wired mesh three inches in diameter at the edge of the aquarium. Push the wired mesh inward, making it look like a skirt. This is the entrance for the lizard.

    • 6). Place five to 10 canned worms inside the aquarium. Take the aquarium to an area that is highly populated with lizards. Lizards normally find homes near the water around creeks and also in vegetative areas. Put the aquarium on the ground where it can lay flat. Make sure the side of the aquarium where the mesh hole was cut, is placed on the ground. This is so the lizard can climb into the trap from the ground level instead of having to climb up the aquarium.

    Wait for the Lizard

    • 1). Leave the trap sitting in its location for two to four hours or even overnight, if you don't want to stick around. Return to the trap to find one or several lizards trapped inside the aquarium.

    • 2). Release the lizard or keep it as a pet. Remember to feed him, and add some vegetation and water in the aquarium to make it more habitable.

    • 3). Repeat these steps again to find a variety of different species to catch.
