How to Slow Down PC Fans
- 1). The BIOS menu is accessed during startup. Reboot your computer if it is already operating by pressing the restart button on the front of your computer, or by clicking on "Restart" in the Start menu.
- 2). Enter the BIOS menu by pressing and holding the appropriate key while your computer is starting up or rebooting. The key you will need to press depends on the make of your computer. Your computer manufacturer's handbook will tell you which key to use. It usually will be either the Delete, Num Lock, F8, F10 or F12 key.
- 3). Locate and enter the "Fan Settings" section in BIOS. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight different options, and press "Enter" to select an option. The fan settings' location will depend on your computer, but it will be under either "Advanced," "CPU," or "Overclocking." Find one of these and press "Enter" to look for the fan settings. Use the "Go Back" option to return to the previous screen.
- 4). Look under the fan settings option and you will see the "fan high temp." and "fan high voltage," as well as the "fan low temp." and "fan low voltage."
- 5). Decrease both "fan high voltage" and "fan low voltage" to make your fan slower and quieter when the operating temperature in your PC is high and also when it is low .
- 6). Increase the "fan high temperature" to make your fan run at its maximum speed less often, and run at a slower speed instead.
- 7). Select "Save Settings and Exit" and you will be taken back to the main BIOS menu.
- 8). Select "Exit" and your computer will finish restarting. Your fan will now run slower.
